Seven Ways To Pamper Your Kitchen Sink With Love

Really, sinks are more than the beasts of burden in your kitchen. If you want them to live longer in your home, you have to treat them like humans and give them the pampering and loving they deserve. Read on to find out how to show your kitchen sink some tender, loving care.

1. Get to know your sink well. There are a number of sinks for your choosing, and a myriad of ways to take care of each one as well. Not one method applies to all sinks. For instance, there are some kitchen sinks that thrive on constant cleaning while there are others that are particularly sensitive to the chemical additives of cleaning agents. If you are unsure, use mildly soaped water. You may have to ask your handyman or salesman for advice on how best to take care of the type of sink your home has.

2. Do not vent your anger on your kitchen sink. If you're mad, fume in silence or write your ire away in your journal. Dropping dishes and banging utensils on the sink can cause its premature death. Even the sturdiest material is not spared from the toll of wear and tear, dents and heavy impacts. Glass sinks can crack and break.

3. Do not deposit dirty dishes and pans, and leave them standing in the kitchen sink for a long time. Your kitchen sink is a lavatory, not a dump site. If you are fond of leaving unwashed plates and pans on your sink, you are inviting roaches, pests and an army of germs to your home. You are also subjecting your sink to denting.

4. Do not leave cans on the sink as well. Even when rinsed, cans may leave stains on your kitchen sink. Be particularly wary if your kitchen sink is metallic (brass or copper) because you are inviting corrosion to act pronto.

5. Spare your kitchen sink from bleaches, chlorine, hydrochloric acid and other strong agents. Once in a while, you may want to use these agents to maintain a squeaky clean look on your kitchen; however, take note that too much of everything is no longer good. Do not overdo cleaning and disinfecting your kitchen sink.

6. Get yourself a chopping board if you don't already own one. Slicing and butchering meat and other food stuff on your kitchen sink are two ways to sentence the sink to a swift and untimely death. Another downside is that you'll also be leaving nasty scratches on the surface, marring your kitchen sink for life.

7. Lavish your kitchen sink with constant attention. While you are constantly subjecting it to wear and tear, do your best to reciprocate the services of your faithful sink. Keeping the dishes away is good but is not enough to increase the life expectancy of your kitchen sink. Set aside time to gently scrub away any residue which may accumulate on the sink. From time to time, allow your sink to enjoy moments of dryness by wiping it with cloth.
