Five Things To Look For In A Sink
Nobody really thinks about the kitchen sink or the bathroom sink when building a home or buying one that's already been built. But it is really important to choose the right sink for your home that will suit your level of usage and functionality.
Sure, you can make due with a small sink that will handle your dirty dishes. But what about all the waste that you have to dispose of after washing dishes? This is just one factor to consider when choosing a sink. Here are some things you should look for in a sink.
• Size – It's important that if you don't have a sink yet or would like to replace the one you are using that you consider the size of the sink that you need. Will you be washing all your plates, pots and pans in the sink? Do you really need a huge sink if you will only use it once a week to wash a bowl and some spoons and forks? Think wisely about this.
The other reason why you should consider size as a factor is because the larger the sink, the more water it can hold. Now all this water can possibly be wasted if you don't really need to use it. Think about how you can save water ahead of convenience.
• Depth – This is another thing to look at firstly because you need to know how much water you will actually use to clean your dishes. A regular sink will be about 8 inches deep and if you really need to wash a lot of large pots and pans, then you might need to get something deeper than that. You can also get something shallower if you only intend to wash plates and your hands.
• Single or double – Do you need one sink or two? This is actually an option that you can have. You might need two sinks, one for washing your dishes thoroughly and the other sink to rinse everything that you have soaped up. You also have a choice of having two sinks, one being smaller but containing a garbage disposal unit so that you can get rid of all the debris that is left from washing your dirty cookware.
• Straight-edged or curved – Sinks with curved corners in the kitchen are nice to work with and have but only if you have your sink built in the middle of your counter. If you are planning to have your sink built in the corner of your kitchen, you might want to have one with straight edges and with sharp corners. This will make it easier to place the sink in any corner of your kitchen you please.
• Material – Sinks are made of all sorts of materials. You have to choose the one that can take the most beating. For a kitchen where you will use a lot of industrial strength appliances, you might want to look into sinks made of stainless steel. These last a long time and won't damage easily especially if you are clumsy and drop things in the sink while washing. You can also get sinks in enamel material and in quartz, a hard marble-like stone that can give your sink a more stylish look as well.
