Five Signs That Say You Need To Replace Your Sink

Whether it's a kitchen sink or a bathroom sink, you have to know that just because these are made of metal or a tough kind of quartz and marble, it doesn't mean that these will last forever. Replacing a sink can be quite tough and tiring but the point is that it can be done. The question is whether or not it should be replaced to begin with. Here are the tell-tale signs that should tell you that you need to replace your sink already.

• Rust – If you have a stainless steel sink or one that is metal coated with some kind of smooth enamel, you will have to expect that one day the metal will rust. Of course, if it's just a little rust, you might not have to worry about it. But if the rust starts to corrode large pieces of the sink, then you should start to think about replacing it.

• Cracks – If you look at your quartz or enamel sink and you notice that there are cracks already forming, you might not want to wait for those cracks to get worse. This is probably a good time to consider changing your sink and also researching how to replace it by yourself.

Small cracks may not seem like something to worry about but don't wait for the point that your sink can't hold water anymore just because the cracks have developed into full-fledged holes.

• Faucet holes – You know the holes where your faucets are supposed to be installed? Well, those are actually the parts of the sink that can be the most vulnerable especially if you botch a faucet replacement job.

If the holes are much larger than they used to be because you cracked them in the past, then you probably have to replace your sink. Of course, look at how extensive the damage is first because you might be able to do a little maintenance work instead of replacing the sink completely.

• Leaks – A sink might be damaged at the base of the drainage area where the pipe is connected. If you notice that your sink is leaking but there is nothing wrong with the pipes, then the drain is the first thing to check.

Typically you can just replace the drain hole or replace some gaskets. But your sink might already be cracked and damaged in that area and so you might end up having to replace a sink even if it does still look like new.

• Corrosion – You may be dumping a lit of chemicals in your sink and down the drain. Some of these chemicals can be quite harsh and can do damage to a sink no matter what material it is made of.

If you are in the habit of throwing chemicals in your sink, you might want to make sure to clean your sink right after dumping chemicals. Otherwise, the enamel, quartz or metal parts of your sink bowl will corrode and therefore be damaged. Before it corrodes any further, consider replacing the whole sink bowl.
