Four Things You Can't Do Without At A Barbecue

When planning a barbecue, it is more than just thinking about the things you are going to cook or what you are going to serve your friends and family. The trick is to be prepared for the barbecue itself so that nothing goes wrong; and never fall short of any items that you will need for it to push through successfully. Before looking at all the details for having a successful barbecue party, first check out if you have a good stock of the following items in your pantry or garage.

• Gas – No, not the type of gas that you have in your car but close enough. Make sure that you have a stock of paraffin in liquid or solid form. Also make sure that it is stored away in safe containers that will not damage too easily or you will be left with a potential fire hazard. Gas is essential to help you start fires faster. There are people who use paper to start fires but this is fast becoming an obsolete practice because paper can be recycled to be used in other applications.

• Wood Chips – Gone are the days when you used to use large pieces of wood to keep a fire burning. A more practical and conservative approach is to use wood chips. These chips are little chunks of wood and you can buy them by the sack. They are not only practical to use but you only need to use so much to keep a fire going so that you can cook your dishes. A sack of these chips should last you a long time depending on your barbecue activity frequency.

• Coal – Of course, you can't really keep the heat going if you do not have coal. Keep them by the bucket or sack in your pantry or garage. It is best to use tin buckets to keep the moisture from seeping into the coals. Coal can be bought in all sizes but the best is to keep the pieces small so that you don't have to use too much when cooking barbecue. Keeping usage to a minimum will help you save a lot more resources for when you need it again in the future. That way, you won't spend money on things that you already have a supply of.

• First Aid Kit – The last thing that anybody remembers to have lying around the house is a first-aid kit. This should always be the first thing that comes to mind when preparing for a barbecue. You just never know what kind of accidents you will meet while you are barbecuing. Think about it: to barbecue you need to use gas, coal, wood chips and fire. These things combined can spell quite a disaster if you don't know what you are doing. So make sure that you have an emergency kit of some kind in case you experience any burns or other accidents during your next barbecue outing.
